When you look closely at the word attunement, you’ll see embedded in the center of it the word ‘tune’, which in turn invokes harmony or song. The practice of attunement is a practice of listening to the song of myself, my inner body, the energies around me. We know that we are energy and vibration, and all of our cells are singing a certain tone… Attunement for me is the practice of ‘tuning in’ to the songs with the intent to be in harmony, to be present, to dial into coherence of body/mind and heart.

It starts with intent, bringing my attention to my body/mind and the felt sense of being here. What is here? what is the feeling of this moment, the texture, the need, the energy? Attunement arises from building a relationship to myself and my body, cultivating an ongoing intimacy that is arises from a natural honesty and compassion for myself. From attunement comes a capacity to relax, and a willingness to be with whatever is here and to let it in and let it be.

The beautiful thing about attunement with myself is that it naturally flows to attunement with others. I cannot be more attuned to others than I am with myself. As I relax into a welcoming intimacy with myself, I can do receive others as well, with awareness, compassion and appropriate boundaries. Without attunement, right action and connection can seem blocked or confused.

Attunement can be developed and cultivated with the practices of pausing and feeling, ‘tuning’ in, returning to your breath. Daily meditations can help so much in nourishing the nervous system so attunement is more accessible. It is worth the time and effort to build these habits, YOU are worth it. Practice listening for your own song, that you may sing it and harmonize with others and with the world. No doubt it is beautiful !
